Join us in our quest to end SUDEP.

What is SUDEP?

SUDEP is the sudden, unexpected death of someone with epilepsy, who was otherwise healthy. Epilepsy is a disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing seizures.

Each year, about 1 in 1,000 adults and 1 in 4,500 children with epilepsy die from SUDEP. This is the leading cause of death in people with uncontrolled seizures.

Remembering Katie

Until August 11, 2017 Katie Jacobson lived every day as if it was her last, and nothing could stop her from pursuing her hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, SUDEP abruptly took her life too soon at the age of 25.

In an effort to keep Katie’s memory alive, The Katherine Jacobson Foundation (KJF) was established to put an end to SUDEP. Our mission is to keep Katie’s memory alive along with putting an end to SUDEP by increasing awareness of this fatal complication through continuous education and support of clinical research to facilitate the quest for a cure.

Honoring a Friend's Legacy and Working for a Cure

The Mission of the Katherine Jacobson Foundation

A Fight Against SUDEP

Our goal is to help find a cure for SUDEP. Proceeds raised from donations and events like our inaugural KJ Night Out will help fund SUDEP focused research so that no other charismatic, compassionate individual will fall victim to this fate.

Thank you to our fund recipients for their continued efforts in researching a cure. Please consider donating to this cause. With YOUR help, together we can make a difference!
