A Personal Foundation

Katie Valimont

I met Katie “KJ” Jacobson in high school playing Hockey. We soon discovered that we had much more in common than just our first names, and were instantly friends. Katie and I became best friends and despite living in different cities 10 years later we were still “thick as thieves.” When Katie passed away from SUDEP I wanted to make sure that her free spirited, spontaneous, fun, charismatic, compassionate, and larger than life personality lived on. I started the KJF with Katie’s brother, Brian, to do just that: raise awareness of SUDEP, and provide critical funding for SUDEP focused research. I hope that the KJF will be an ever lasting legacy of Katie J.

Katie is my younger sister, and is the youngest of our family. Some of my best memories are our family vacations, traveling with friends, trips to Vegas, and MU basketball games. Katie was always the life of the party, had an incredible sense of adventure, and could make friends with anyone.

I founded the KJF with Katie’s best friend, Katie V. We are dedicated to raising awareness of SUDEP, and providing critical funding for SUDEP focused research. I hope that the KJF will keep Katie’s memory alive and showcase her larger than life personality and spirit.
